Monthly Report for May 2016

This is the first monthly report.  Many more will come.  I provide insight on all of my sites, not just Authority Grinder itself.  To that end, I will share all the stuff: statistics, challenges, and achievements for each one.

I will not publish the site names nor keywords, as I've seen others that have shared their stuff get copied and even get attacked with negative SEO tactics. This is a business for me and I'm not willing to potentially expose myself to that.

I do share just about all the details of my sites, but I'd like to add a different spin than others.  Here's the deal...

Added to these monthly reports is the emotions that go along with it.  The fear of a new site not succeeding, wasting money on a project that doesn't produce, or wondering if you're the only one having challenges.  The fun and the happiness of reaching a goal, whether financial or rankings, will also be shared.

The frustration of not meeting a goal is softened and the excitement of exceeding a goal is sweetened by sharing them with you, my supporters.  So let's get to it...

Here is the monthly report for May 2016.  Enjoy!

PROJECT 1

Project 1 is a niche site designed for affiliate sales around Amazon.  Adsense is added, but it's not geared towards it.

I started this site in August of 2015.  There's about 40 pages/posts live.  The niche is around professional medical products.

Updates

It's going to be kinda hard to give you some updates when it's the first time I'm showing you behind the curtains of the site.  I'll do my best for you though!

Last month I added 6 guest posts, not too shabby I might add.  This was my goal for the month of May, so mission accomplished on this one.

I didn't add any content since I've been concentrating on the backlinks.  The site is well out of the Google Sandbox, so I want to see how the site can do.

While I do have my hopes up, I'll cautiously optimistic.  It's just hard to keep grinding away with little progress on the income coming in.  I just got to believe.

Content

There's currently about 40ish pages/posts on the site.

Of that, there's about 12 review posts of a specific product.

Another 5 posts that are "best of."  The site is geared towards these as the money makers with the Amazon Associate links.

These are where I'm trying to get the guest posts links to.  My thought process is that if I can continue to increase the rankings for these pages, the revenue will increase dramatically.  Let's hope that it works!

The rest are informational posts.  These are not optimized to create revenue but more to prevent Google from labeling the site as 'thin.'

I just placed some Google Adsense on these categories of posts, so if I make some money with it's better than nothing.  And I don't know if this is true or not, but I'm crossing my fingers that if Google looks at my site and see's some Adsense on it, they won't penalize me for 'thin' content that I keep hearing on Amazon Affiliate sites.

Rankings

Okay, the first part of the statistics sections.

  • DA went up 1 point to 24
  • PA went up 1 point as well to 26
  • CF stayed the same at 32
  • TF went down 1 point to 19
  • Total links increased by 54 to a total of 579

Analytics

As you can see, there were 6,487 sessions in May.  Not bad, considering the month before was 3,625.  That's an increase of 1,562 sessions or a 44% in one month!

Console

The clicks have increased from 2,980 to just shy of 5,500.  A very, very nice increase in my book.

The average position also increased, from 12.5 to 10.7.  I'll take that movement!  A little confirmation that this site still has potential.

What that potential is and how much, well that's anyone's guess at this point. Currently my main keywords are ranking around the mid to high teens.  If I can just get a few of them on page 1, that should be a good gauge of the potential income.

I sure wish there was a manual that if you reach this, this is how much you get. Yeah, I know I'm dreaming but it sure would be nice!

AdSense

A total of $8.84 for the month of May.  Not much, but like I said, it's not geared towards this revenue stream.  It's an increase of $2.12, resulting in a 32% increase from April.

I expect this to rise as I add more informational posts.  I have these ads only on informational posts and not reviews posts.

Amazon Affilliate

This is a huge jump from the month before!  April's income was $214.01, that's a 53% increase in revenue.

What a reassurance jolt!!!  All the hard work, dedication of time, and struggle is starting to pay off.  Especially since I was considering selling this site just to earn some of the investment back.  If it continues like this, I'll keep it.

This is the first month that I turned a profit!!!  Yeah baby!!!

It's kinda cool to think that I'm earning money 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

I could be taking a cruise or just hanging out by the pool and the money just pours in!

If it could only be that easy...

Alot of anxiety, frustration, loneliness, and heartache went into this site so far.  Still not sure if it's completely worth the time away from the wife and daughter.

I mean, I could be earning more money delivering pizza's for the amount of time I put into this site so far.  This is very frustrating for me.

Next Month Goals

This site is starting to take off, or at least I hope it continues on this path.

This is interesting, because as I said earlier, I was giving it some serious thought to sell it off and recoup some the investment for future projects.  I'll hold off for now and see what happens.

I guess this is the part that's hard to grasp, what's the right thing to do.  Sell or hold?  If it doesn't improve, then that's money tied up.  If I sell and the new potential owner sees improvement, that's lost opportunity for me.

I'm comfortable with the decision to hold for another month and see what happens.  What's thirty days anyways, right?

So with that, I'll continue to build some powerful backlinks.  My goal is to get at least 6 guest posts next month.

As far as adding any content, I'll hold tight here too.  Since I'm not sure if I going to keep it or not, I don't want to invest any more on content.  I hate to write, that's why I pay others to do it for me.

A wait and see game has begun!

PROJECT 2

Project 2 is a site built around AdSense.  I started to build it from scratch in January of this year.  The niche is careers.  It's been sitting in the Google Sandbox.

So far there are only two posts on the site.  I've built some backlinks through relevant niche directories and resources pages.

Updates

Just as with project 1, it's kinda hard to give a true update perspective with this monthly report is the first one.

My initial goal was to get the site indexed with Google and let it marinate through the Sandbox.  I wanted to get 3 posts on the site and let it sit.  I've accomplished this goal.

I'm planning on working on this site around July as that's when I expect it to start ranking.  In the meantime, I'd like to have some articles ready and have things prepped like an autoresponder framework in place.

Content

I don't like to write.  It's hard for me to write this monthly report.  I really enjoy the backlinks, ordering of articles, keyword research and such.  Writing.... NO!

So I went over to Textbroker and bought some articles.  I prepare a very detailed content brief that outlines everything.  I also use 4 star writers.

I do expect to tweak the articles to fit my needs.  I find it easier than starting from scratch and I don't have that much time to write.

A total of 15 articles were purchased.  All varying length.  The longest was around 3,200 words and the shortest was about 800 words.

Just the time to research the keywords and prepare the articles briefs took me the entire month.  I wish I could work full time on websites, but at two hours a day, I'll take it.

It was frustrating not to get even one up and posted.  Very frustrating.  I feel like it'll take forever to get this site up, not much less by my gaol of July. Yes, this year 😉 !    Ughhh.... I need progress!

Rankings

I mentioned that I did build some backlinks already.  Mostly it was niche related directories.  I did score some BIG links, I'm talking DA of 80+ for two!  Yeah baby!!!!

  • DA went up 18 point to 19
  • PA went up 31 points to 32
  • CF went down 1 point to 26
  • TF stayed the same at 16
  • Total links increased by 5 to a total of 80

Analytics

authority grinder project 2 may analytics monthly report

Just a measly 219 sessions.  It's an increase of 30% from April's sessions.  I guess I can't complain.

Console

authority grinder monthly report project 2 may console

The site ranking stayed just about the same as the previous month.  And this is after I got several killer backlinks in April.  I thought I'd see a bigger bump, but I guess not.  Ughhhh..... keep grinding!

AdSense

authority grinder project 2 adsense monthly report

With no traffic and only three posts up, not much revenue at all.  Gotta rank to do well with AdSense.  More work to do!

Yeah......

Not making anything but pennies.  Gotta start somewhere.

I actually believe this site has alot of potential due to me actually taking just over a month to plan it.  So much more potential than Project 1.  If I were to sell Project 1, this is most likely where I'd reinvest the money.

I know there's gonna be some upfront investment with this site.  I'm okay with it, just a pain that it takes so long.  I want some progress to keep me motivated!

Next Month Goals

My goal for June is to actually post two or three of the articles from Textboker.  No backlinks or new article orders.  Marination time in the sand.

I try to put alot of effort in creating a post.  Pictures, videos, visual stimulis and such.  I'm trying to make my sites look like they're made with a million bucks, but actually for alot less.

It just takes so much time to create them.  Price you gotta pay I guess.  Playing some good music while doing it definitely helps!

ALL SITES COMBINED

Technically, Authority Grinder hasn't been born yet.  I wanted to give everyone a good background by going back a few months before expanding out my site porfolio.

I hope this gives everyone a more robust understanding on where I'm starting so that you can relate to my experiences.

I have given some serious consideration of starting Authority Grinder.  But alas, I haven't made the decision.  In May, I'm still kicking the idea around.  Gotta make a decision soon.

I thought long and hard since I'm not an expert.  Not like Matthew Woodward, Brain Dean, Neil Patel, Pat Flynn, Jon Haver,  Spencer Haws, Doug Cunningham, Tung Tran, Chris Lee, and Jon Cooper to name a few.

But then, I remembered they started out just like me.  While these and numerous others are great mentors, I struggled.  I struggled for a few years on how to build websites today that stand a chance.

Along the way I wasted a ton of money on people I thought were gurus but ended up being just good at stealing my money.  I won't ever reveal their names as I don't want to even give any indication that they deserve a mention on my site.

I will share in the coming months who I respect, follow, and listen to.  And that's my goal with Authority Grinder.  Sharing the experts that I found along the way to get me where I'm at today, on the verge of greatness.

I want to create a place where people can find the right resources, to create the right knowledge, to have the right foundation to have the right website.

And along the way, I'll share my defeats and my wins.  Well, let's hope their are alot of wins for both you and me.

And that's just it, I'm not alone on the journey.  And neither are you.  We're in it together.

Welcome to Authority Grinder.  A common guy trying to achieve their dream by grinding away at niche websites.

So here's the financial stuff for all my sites combined so far.

I bought a monthly subscription to Ahrefs.  I saw some good reviews and wanted to give it a try.  The nice thing is that I cancel at any time if I don't like it.

I am considering cancelling Buy Proxies.  I use it mostly on ScrapeBox.  If Ahrefs works out well, I may not need the proxies.

After seeing the total net loss so far for the year, it's very discouraging.  I just gotta keep grinding to make it pay off.

Reading alot of professional bloggers, that's what they say why most people fail. They never keep at it, grinding.  I plan on giving Project 2 at least a year before I consider whether to keep going or not.

I'm just not sure my limited, very limited business funds can withstand these shortfalls month after month.  Something gotta change.

Here's a quick video to help you stay motivated.... and me 😉 !

Let me know what you think.  Is there anything else you'd like to see about my sites? (No, I won't share the keywords or sites themselves 😉 ).

Todd Connelly

I'm just like anyone else trying to grind away on websites for some extra money. When I'm not working my day job or pecking away on the keyboard, you can find me spending time with my wonderful wife and beautiful daughter. I obsess with numbers and data. (Maybe a little too much!)
